These designs follow a monologue by playwright and actress Camille Johnson, who creates a world where water towers everywhere are spaceships. The point of view comes from a woman who details the way she experiences life as it directly relates to her gender identity and expression. Stories that detail transphobia and gender discrimination are important for people to hear in a time where certain lives and bodies are heavily politicized and regulated by law. Following her narrative, I intended to illustrate the common feeling of wanting to give up or get away from everything in the world, and the extreme isolation that the feeling can push a person, that the writer is able to articulate with strong imagery. The purpose is to emphasize the need for empathy for all people so that we can help all people feel safe in the only home we have, Earth.
